Johny M. Smith is currently the Chief Executive Officer of TransNamib Ltd since February 2018. Previously he served as the CEO of the Walvis Bay Corridor Group (WBCG) for a period of 11 years.
TransNamib Holdings Limited is the national rail service provider of Namibia. “TransNamib” was established in terms of the National Transportation Service Holding Company Act, 28 of 1998. All shares in TransNamib are owned by the Government of the Republic of Namibia, who also exercises non-regulatory control through the appointment of the Company’s directors.
He has more than 25 year’s commercial experience in the fields of telecommunications, road, rail and sea transportation. His relevant experience covers the aspects of Business Strategy, Organisational development, Business Development, Marketing and Project Management. He has previously been serving various positions and roles at the WBCG, Namport and Telecom Namibia.
His academic qualifications include a B Comm degree, MBA and various other management and logistics courses and conferences, which he attended and presented. He serves as a Commissioner of the National Planning Commission, Director of the WBCG and Men on the Side of the Road, which is a non-profit organization.
Previously he was the Chairperson of Telecom Namibia, Chairperson for ACMA and served on the Board of Namibia Post and Telecom Holdings and Namibia Trade Forum.
