Why ECOMOF 2018 in Côte d’Ivoire?

  • Mining in Côte d’Ivoire is experiencing one of the fastest growth rates across Sub-Saharan Africa with sector turnover rising by 11.5% in 2017, an increase achieved mainly via exports of gold, manganese and nickel.
  • The government is working actively towards greater transparency in the mining sector with the implementation of the mining code in 2014 and ongoing infrastructure developments, making the nation investment friendly.
  • In 2017, the ECOWAS region produced 2,254 thousand barrels of oil per day. The majority of this production stems from the Gulf of Guinea and the government of Côte d’Ivoire is looking to develop its own blocks in the region.
  • The government has just finished a revision of the country’s block map covering 87,000 sq. km to rekindle interest in frontier acreage. Already several blocks have been acquired by oil majors.
  • Côte d’Ivoire aims to double its oil & gas output by 2020 and is focusing on/concentrating on [C1] on foreign investment in offshore exploration.
