Press Release: West Africa’s mining and petroleum industries to meet in Abidjan
AME Trade Ltd is proud to announce that in partnership with the Economic Community of West African Countries (ECOWAS) and the Government of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire, will be organising the second edition of the ECOWAS Mining & Petroleum Forum & Exhibition (ECOMOF 2018). The event will take place in Abidjan, Ivory Coast from 9-11th October 2018.
The event was conceived by the ECOWAS Ministers responsible for Mineral and Resources Development who, during a meeting in Monrovia Liberia in 2010, collectively agreed that regional mining and petroleum forum event was necessary to promote the mining and petroleum potential of member states. After a successful inaugural edition in Accra, Ghana in 2015, the event will be taking place in Abidjan, a key business hub of the region.
Under the theme “Strategies to promote the development of West Africa’s mining and petroleum industries”, the event will connect all major public and private sector stakeholders to discuss the next steps in sustainably developing the region’s extractive industries. Both government officials and senior executives from international mining and E&P companies will highlight opportunities to diversify the mining industry and exploration strategies in a ‘lower for longer environment’. Through a large-scale exhibition, both local and international service providers will also receive a platform to establish their role in advancing projects.
At the moment the Ivory Coast has the ideal opportunity to capitalise on its petroleum and mineral resources and become a major international player in both industries. Its favourable geology has led to a number of successful gold, nickel and manganese projects, leading to an 11.7% increase in industry turnover in 2017. Similarly, deep offshore oil discoveries underline the scope for further hydrocarbon frontier exploration. By attending ECOMOF, delegates will have an unprecedented opportunity to hear more about the region’s mineral and petroleum potential and how they will aid the socioeconomic development of the region.
“ECOWAS is excited to be organising the second edition of this prestigious event. By uniting all member states under one roof, we will be able to underline how the extractive industries will contribute the region’s economic growth and global influence. We look forward to welcoming delegates and sponsors from the private sector and engage in discussions vital to advance mining and petroleum projects”. ECOWAS Commission
