Dr. Eugene H. Shannon is a Liberian, born in Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County, Republic of Liberia. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) in Geology and Chemistry from Western Michigan University, U.S.A and the University of Liberia, Monrovia, Liberia; a Master’s Degree (MSc) in Geochemistry and Clay Mineralogy from Michigan State University; and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Petrology and Geochemistry from Syracuse University, U.S.A.
He served as Director of the Liberian Geological Survey, Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy, from 1980-1990; as consultant for the Trans-National Corporation Department of the United Nations, New York, N.Y. from 1990-1992; and Principal Natural Resources Expert and Environmentalist with the African Development Bank, Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire and Tunis, Tunisia from 1992-2006. In January 2006, he was called upon by Her Excellency, Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia to serve as Minister of the Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy. He served in that capacity from January 2006 to December 2010.
Dr. Eugene H. Shannon is presently the President of a fully incorporated Company, named and styled Natural Resources Development Corporation (NRDC). The emphasis of this corporation is to develop Liberia’s Natural Resources through expert consulting services.
Dr. Shannon is happily married to Mrs. Loris Mardia Shannon, former Commercial Manager of the Liberian Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), Republic of Liberia (1978-1990). This union is blessed with five children. He is a committed and dedicated Christian.
Dr. Eugene H. Shannon is a renowned Geologist and Environmentalist. He is an adjunct Professor at the University of Liberia. He has written and published more than 20 articles. He is a soccer enthusiast and a staunch supporter of all sports.
