Biography

Engineer José Mendes, is a local Business Man, Operating in Oil & Gas Industry, as well as in Infrastructures Development.
He was a Professor of Hydrocarbon Geology at UEM (Eduardo Mondlane University) where he lectured during 1991-1993 period. Mr. Mendes has a BSc Hons in Geology obtained at UEM in 1989, he then went on to study Petroleum Geology at Oxford BROOKS University in 1996-1997 and later on, obtained a Diploma in Petroleum Engineering by Lateorke Oil & GAS.
In 1998 Mr. Mendes decided to venture into the Construction Industry and went on to study Civil Engineering, and obtaining a Degree in Civil Engineering at the High Industrial Institute in Maputo during the period 2001-2005.
As part of his Professional Experience, Mr. Mendes worked several years, from 1988 to 1996 at ENH ( Mozambique National Oil Company), where he became a Senior Geologist and was in charge of overseeing Geological Profiles and Sample Collection during drilling of several Oil & Gas wells at Pande/Temane Gas Field, located in the South of Mozambique, where Sasol Oil International is currently exploring Gas-Condensate & Light Oil.
Mr. Mendes is also the CEO of Marcleusa Group Lda, which incorporates Marcleusa Construçoes, Marcleusa Petróleos & Marcleusa Office Park. Additionally, he is the Vice-President of matters on Mineral Resources, Oil & Gas, and Energy at CTA (the Confederation of Trading Associations) .
Mr. Mendes has some articles written comprising the Oil Industry in Mozambique, among them, “The Oil & Gas Potential in Grudja Formation at Pande/Temane Gás Field”, which is the most prominent. Mr. Mendes is married to Lúcia Mendes, a Public Servant at APIEX, has 3 children, lives in Maputo, is a motorsport enthusiast and as a hobby, does Formula 1 Analysis and Commentary for SuperSport Channel in Republic of South Africa.
