Lusaka, Zambia – June 26, 2018: ZIMEC 2018, the Eighth edition of the Zambia International Mining and Energy Conference & Exhibition was held from the 21 – 22 June 2018 at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre. The event was organised by AME Trade Ltd. with the support of the Zambian Ministry of Mines, Ministry of Energy and Zambian Chamber of Mines to facilitate the development of Zambia’s extractive industries focussing on investments and long-term sustainable development.
With a total +200 registered participants attending the event, ZMEC 2018 has proved to be successful, yet again, with honourable guests such as Brig. Gen. Emelda Chola, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Nathan Chishimba, President, Zambia Chamber of Mines addressing at the opening ceremony along with John Gladstom, Head of Government Relations, First Quantum Mineral and John Chiwele, Chief Financial Officer, Mopani Copper Mines. Based on the 2018 theme, presentations highlighted the importance of regulatory foundations for sustainable and diversified mining and energy industries, promotion of inclusive growth and financing mining and energy projects leading to the overall economic development of the country.
The programme was created to provide focus on reforms in mining policies and developments in regulatory frameworks to incentivise investments in mining and renewable energy in Zambia. ZIMEC 2018 had a new element featuring two dedicated separate streams: Mining in Zambia and Power Zambia. The first stream delved into the growth, diversification and sustainable development in the mining sector. Local content was also highlighted as a key topic. Power Zambia focussed on the expansion and growth opportunities in the highly lucrative Zambian energy market.
ZIMEC 2018 featured sponsorships from big names such as Mopani Copper Mines, First Quantum Minerals, Barrick Gold, Concrete Canvas, ABB, Copperbelt Energy Corporation and Ernst & Young and had exhibitors representing both mining and energy sectors. The event provided ample opportunities for networking and business development. ZIMEC 2018, yet again, acted as an ideal podium for public and private stakeholders to congregate to meet new prospective business partners and do business in Zambia.
