He is responsible for overseeing all project development and financing activites.
Brian has 10 years of experience in developing-world power and infrastructure project financing and development. He has been developing and investing in power projects in East Africa since moving to the region and starting Virunga Power in 2011. During that time, he also acted as a Principal focused on structuring, financing, and transactions during the launch years of the responsAbility Renewable Energy Holding fund, an equity investor in small-scale renewable energy projects in Africa.
Prior to moving to East Africa, Brian spent five years working at leading global financial institutions in Asia covering the power sector. Most recently, he worked with Barclays Capital in their Hong Kong-based Asia Power & Utilities team advising on cross-border M&A transactions and conducting debt and equity financing for the leading power firms in China, India, and across the Asia-Pacific region. He previously worked in a similar capacity at Merrill Lynch and Lehman Brothers. Prior to that, Brian worked with the International Finance Corporation in Beijing while on a fellowship in China.
Brian graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. He speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese.
