Matt Pascall was born in Harare on September 1, 1950, and schooled in Zimbabwe. Following schooling at Peterhouse, he completed a BSc in Mining Engineering at Witwatersrand University, Johannesburg, and an MBA at the Cape Town University South Africa. He embarked on a base metals mining career in Zimbabwe and South Africa and was the Mine Manager of Newmont’s O’okiep Copper Mine in Western Cape. He spent 14 years in the mining supply business in South Africa and neighboring countries, of which 10 years was in his own company. He joined First Quantum Minerals in 1997, almost from the beginning.
Currently Director of Operation for First Quantum Minerals (FQM), he has been actively involved in FQM’s operations in Zambia since the start of Bwana Mkubwa through to the development of Kansanshi Mine, and now the Kalumbila Trident Project. Pascall keeps fit cycling, and enjoys golf and snow skiing; he also makes his own wine and has a profound love of the African bush.
