PI Africa 2027 Returns to Mauritius to Shape Africa’s Next Era of Institutional Investment
Mauritius – As Africa’s institutional investment landscape enters a new phase of growth and maturity, the Pension Funds and Alternative Investments Africa (PI Africa) Conference will return to Mauritius from 17–19 March 2027, bringing together the continent’s leading pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, regulators, development finance institutions, asset managers and private capital leaders.
Held under the theme, “Mobilising Africa’s Institutional Capital to Deliver Real Outcomes,” PI Africa 2027 will explore how Africa’s growing pool of long-term capital can be deployed more effectively to strengthen portfolios, finance productive sectors and support sustainable economic growth across the continent.
Over the past decade, Africa’s institutional investment landscape has evolved significantly. Pension reforms have accelerated, governance standards have strengthened and alternative investments have become an increasingly important part of institutional portfolios. As a result, pension funds and sovereign investors are playing a far greater role in financing infrastructure, supporting private enterprise and strengthening domestic capital markets.
Against a backdrop of geopolitical uncertainty, technological disruption and shifting global capital flows, the conversation has moved beyond capital mobilisation. The challenge today is how institutional capital can be deployed with greater confidence, discipline and purpose to deliver competitive returns while supporting Africa’s long-term development.
PI Africa has grown alongside this evolution, becoming one of the continent’s leading platforms for institutional investors, policymakers and global investment partners to exchange practical insights, build strategic relationships and identify investment opportunities. For almost a decade, Mauritius has provided the ideal setting for these discussions, combining political stability, a progressive financial services sector and its position as a gateway for investment into Africa.
The 2027 programme reflects the changing priorities of institutional investors, with discussions focusing on governance and regulatory reform, domestic capital market development, infrastructure, private equity, venture capital, private credit, trade finance, digital transformation and sustainable investing. Throughout the programme, the emphasis will remain firmly on practical implementation, investment readiness and responsible long-term capital deployment.
New for 2027, the conference will open on 17 March with the PI Africa Executive Trustee & Investment Committee Readiness Masterclass – Preparing Institutional Leaders for the Next Generation of Alternative Investments. Designed for trustees, investment committee members, pension fund executives and asset owners, the executive programme will provide practical guidance on governance, due diligence and alternative investment decision-making.
The main conference on 18–19 March will feature executive roundtable discussions, PI Africa Perspective (short TED-style presentations) from industry leaders—interactive panel sessions, enhanced networking opportunities and a closing commitments forum focused on translating dialogue into practical action.
Commenting on the launch of PI Africa 2027, Mahad Ahmed, CEO of AME Trade Ltd, said:
“Africa’s institutional investors are entering a defining new chapter. Pension funds, sovereign wealth funds and long-term asset owners have an unprecedented opportunity to shape Africa’s future through disciplined, long-term investment. PI Africa continues to provide a trusted platform where industry leaders can exchange knowledge, build strategic partnerships and develop practical investment solutions. Our ambition is simple—to help transform institutional capital into real outcomes that strengthen markets, support economic development and create lasting value across the continent.”
Registration for PI Africa 2027 is now open, with strong interest already being received from institutional investors, regulators, development finance institutions, asset managers and private capital providers from across Africa and international markets.
PI Africa 2027 will take place at the InterContinental Resort, Mauritius (17–19 March 2027), continuing its mission of connecting Africa’s institutional investment community with the knowledge, partnerships and investment opportunities needed to drive sustainable growth and long-term prosperity.
